Electrical ‘Earth’ Safety

Unlike the mains supply most small generators have what is called a “floating” live and neutral supply (where the earth is not connected to neutral). Floating live and neutral is seen as being safer for most situations where a generator is used to supply a single piece of equipment but where there will be more than one piece of “class 1” equipment connected, safe connection may have to be treated differently.

When a generator is used to supply multiple loads from a common circuit it is usually best practice to ‘reference’ the neutral and earth wires and to incorporate a Consumer Unit with Residual Current Devices to protect the operator against the possibility of electric shock caused by contact with either of the supply wires.

On generators with a capacity of less than 10kVA there is no legal or regulatory requirement to bond neutral and earth but it must be understood that an RCD in a caravan, for example, may not operate correctly when powered by a generator.  Generator Warehouse recommends that you consult a suitably qualified electrician in the above situations.

Ordering

Whilst we take great care to ensure the accuracy of descriptions, specifications and pricing there may be occasions where errors arise. Should such a situation occur Generator Warehouse cannot accept your order. In the event of a mistake you will be contacted with a full explanation and a corrected offer. The information displayed is considered as an ‘invitation to treat’ not as a confirmed offer for sale. The contract is confirmed upon supply of goods.

Delivery

Generator delivery to the mainland UK (England, Scotland and Wales) will normally be within 48 hours of transaction for generators between 1kW and 6kW. Please note that deliveries to certain post code areas may take longer and incur a delivery charge.  Details of these areas may be found under the ‘Delivery’ link. Home backup or business backup generators take longer to despatch, primarily due to the checks that are necessary before they can be operational in the field.  For generators with outputs between 1kW and 6kW delivery is free.  For all generators with outputs above 6kW there will be a delivery charge to add on.

Fuel conversion from Petrol to Gas will normally increase the delivery time by 5 days.

Payment must be made in full before goods are despatched. You can pay by Credit/Debit Card or by Bank Transfer but we do not accept Credit/Debit Card transactions over the phone. Goods paid for by cheque will be despatched once funds have cleared to our account, this usually takes several days.  We will send you an email and/or text message confirming payment and advising on the delivery status of your consignment.

We try to make the delivery process as simple as possible but can only deliver to the address registered with your payment card for security reasons

We aim to deliver within the timescales quoted on our website but please allow two extra days before contacting us. We will attempt to email you if we become aware of an unexpected delay.

Delivery of orders will be attempted twice.  Failed deliveries after this can be delivered at an extra cost to you or you may be able to collect the package from the carrier’s local depot upon proof of purchase and identity.

Returns & Exchange

If you change your mind and want to return your new generator we will issue a credit note for the price you paid.  Or if the generator is faulty and you want to return it under our no quibble warranty, there are just a few conditions:

  1. The generator must have been run for no more than one hour. If under Warranty this may differ.
  2. It must be returned in all its original packaging, including any accessories or other items supplied as part of the original purchase, and be in re-saleable condition when it arrives at our warehouse (as supplied, no oil or fuel)
  3. We will accept any generator return between 1 and 6kW. The cost of the return will be borne by yourselves. Above that size we do not accept returns. This does not affect your statutary rights. Should a machine prove faulty it will be covered under the terms of the Warranty.

That’s it, no quibbles.

  • You can reselect a different generator and we will despatch it as soon as we have received your original and given it a quick check.
  • If you would like us to arrange for our carrier to collect your generator we will be happy to do so and will deduct the cost from your credit.  Please note that our carrier (and all the others we know) will only transport generators once they have been emptied of all fuel and oil to avoid any contamination problems.

Incorrect or Damaged Goods

We try very hard to ensure that you receive your order in pristine condition. If you do not receive your products as ordered or in the unlikely event that they have been damaged in transit please contact us immediately. Delivery charges on any incorrect items received will be refunded onto your credit/debit card.
