Generator Warehouse know Honda, Hyundai, Cummins, JCB & EGEN produce some of the UK’s best home generators for backup power, which is why we have chosen to build our home backup range from the manufacturers we know and trust. Our generator experts have carefully selected the most affordable, reliable and efficient generators on the market in order to ensure we deliver top quality products to our clients.
Our home backup generators are available from 5.0kVA to 27.0kVA and come in sounds acoustic enclosures, ensuring noise levels are kept to a minimum. Whether you require short term power or a primary power resource, our trained advisers will ensure you find the correct genset fro your requirements.
What size generator do I need for my home?
The size you need depends on what you want to power during an outage. For essential circuits only (lighting, fridge, freezer, and your boiler), a 7 to 10kVA generator will usually suffice. If you want to run your entire home including high demand appliances like electric cookers, immersion heaters or heat pumps, you’ll likely need something in the 20 to 30kVA range. Our team can help you calculate your total load if you’re unsure.
Should I choose petrol or diesel for a home backup generator?
Diesel generators are generally better suited to home backup applications. They’re more fuel efficient, have longer service intervals, and diesel stores more safely than petrol over extended periods. Petrol generators like the Honda EU70iS work well for occasional, shorter outages, while diesel models are the preferred choice if you need extended runtime or anticipate using your generator regularly.
How noisy are home backup generators?
All the generators in our home backup range come in soundproofed acoustic enclosures, which significantly reduces noise levels compared to open frame models. You can expect sound levels between 60 and 75 decibels at 7 metres, depending on the model and load. This is roughly equivalent to normal conversation, making them suitable for residential areas.
What do the standby and prime power ratings mean?
The standby rating is the maximum output for emergency use when mains power fails, typically for limited periods with variable load. The prime rating is a lower, continuous output figure for unlimited running hours. For home backup purposes where you’re covering occasional power cuts, the standby rating is the relevant figure.
